Formica incerta (Common Red Field Ant)
Formica incerta is one of the quickest growing wood ant species found in Canada that normally can be found in sandy areas. Known as Common Red Field Ant, they are found in most regions of Southern Ontario. These Formica queens have a beautiful red head with a black gaster. 
 
Formica incerta queens are smaller than most other Southern-Ontario Formica species, where queens reach normally around 7-9mm while workers from 6-9mm. The colonies of Formica incerta can grow very large. These ants do partake in accepting brood from other Formica species (Like Formica subserica & Formica fusca).
