Lasius Brevicornis is one of the largest and most colourful garden ant species found in Canada.
Known as The Short Horned Meadow Ant, they are found in most regions of Southern-Eastern Ontario and other parts of Canada. Whilst they may be a bit slighlty smaller than other Lasius species (Americanus and Neoniger), they certainly do make up in color. The Short Horned Meadow Ant queens convey a gorgeous orange-to-brown coloration with a golden gaster. These ants look like shimmering golden ants where their colours are most visible under the sun or bright light.
They are one of the easiest ants to keep and are considered a great beginner species for all novice antkeepers. Queens are normally around 7-10mm while workers from 3-5mm. The colonies of Lasius Brevicornis can grow very large, they are very active and will live in their logs and develop until they are a force and can start reproducing more alates!
