Commonly dubbed as the "winter ant" and the "false honeypot ant". A common belief is that these ants forage in the snow, but this is not true. These ants forage for falling and rotting fruit in the late summer and fall season, as this is their favourite food.
Their abdomens can swell up with large amounts of liquid food and these ants can tolerate colder temperatures than most other north american ants. Queens are normally around 7-10mm while workers from 3-6mm.Patience is required to keep these ants as they can display long periods of inactivity.
This ant can have multiple queens and queens can be sold together.
